Of Synthesizers.!.and Waveforms
I thought I knew a lot about synthesizers until today. My favorite (and the most common) waveforms are the almighty Sawtooth, Square and the sine/triangle (they're pretty much the same thing when you think about it). But today I was noodling with my "new" Ensoniq SQ 80 and I realized that I overlooked another common waveform: The modest pulse. I realized today that I was a bit of a fool for avoiding it all this time. Whether it be in LSDJ or on my Roland JX-3P, I was never very fond of it until today. I always thought it thin, puny, and raspy... Perhaps it's the refreshing reminders of fall who is on his way that endow a new faith in this rectangular boxy line? Whatever it is, I know that I will be using it a lot more in my future creations.
To stimulate social interactions on this site I will leave you with a cute question: What is YOUR favorite waveform?
