I wonder what they're going to do to Death Grips
Basically they released their own music today and they kind of told the label to fuck off because they had not let any of them hear it either.
But they got their site that THEY pay for shut down by the label because they leaked the album to the masses. But what I do not see is WHY the fuck the label would further the gap if they're having issues with them?
Shutting down the site is just going to cause more problems than good and as soon as it got out everyone that knew about it (music sites) linked the d/l mirrors.
If Death Grips owns the publishing then there is not much the label can do besides get them for breach of contract but at the same time when they signed them, they knew they wanted to do two albums and they basically had this album finished when they dropped Money Store...
Having been around those record cronies my entire life, this is why their labels and their cash cow is drying up. They're not innovating and thinking outside of the box. Death Grips probably got themselves a lot more fans by basically pulling some of the punkest shit ever by a non punk band and will probably have great results on a tour, yet instead of seeing the big picture they're seeing the loss of revenues from the album that was not going to sell well anyway.
Fucking idiocy. And while those same morons paid my mother all these years and have paid for a lot of things in my life, I still do not understand how people that USED TO LOVE music, have decided to make it their mission to kill it because they want a Benz instead of an Audi.

"Trick R Treat" had a big push from the online horror blog community, but I don't recall it getting a ton of love through more trad social media sites. I definitely agree that it's much harder to suppress things in this day and age. I remember when Prince's "Black" album was one of those "urban-legend" type of things: that would never happen nowadays.

Yeah, I agree, "Trick r Treat" deserved a wider release.

Was that pre or post all this social media and shite? Reason I ask is now the "man" has a harder time because once it hits those sites things go viral and then its out of control.

It reminds me of what happened to the indie horror film "Trick R Treat." The film had tremendous pre-release buzz and a huge built-in audience. Reviews were through the roof and everyone in the horror community was impatiently waiting for the thing to go to theatres. The Weinstein brothers, however, ended up having a beef with the filmmakers and decided to squash the film. Since there was a clause in the filmmakers' contracts that stipulated the film must go to theatres, the Weinsteins released it to about five theaters in podunk towns spread across the U.S. It (obviously) died an inglorious death at the box office and ended up (essentially) going straight to DVD. The film is absolutely amazing, easily the best anthology horror film ever. Because of a beef between the behind-the-scenes folks, however, very few people will ever know about it. The Establishment has, unfortunately, a long history of stomping down hard on the little people to make a point.
