Afghan Whigs
Very stoked for this show on Sunday at the Granada in Dallas. I have been a huge fan of the Afghan Whigs (and Greg Dulli in general) since I saw the Gentleman video on 120 minutes when I was in my early teens. I never got a chance to see them before they split so I have been taking advantage of this reunion. I saw them twice in Chicago, Lollapalooza and then their after show at The Metro, and they sounded unbelievably tight. In my opinion Greg Dulli is one of the best songwriters to come out of the 90's "alternative" scene, and honestly just over all in the last couple decades.
They've recorded a few new cover songs (their version of Frank Ocean's Lovecrimes is fantastic) and I really hope that this will lead to a new record. It's nice that this reunion came about organically through playing/hanging out with each other and, at least on the surface, doesn't seem to be about cashing in. Dulli's other band Twilight Singers are phenomenal as well. I saw them last spring, and I guess the Whigs bass player, John Curly, joined Dulli on stage for some shows on that tour and then after hanging out with Whigs guitarist Rick McCollum they just decided it would be a lot of fun to go back out and play as the Afghan Whigs.
Last I checked tickets are still available for the Dallas show so if you're interested I can tell you that it will definitely be a great time. Anyone else going to this show, or seeing them on this tour?

She was closer to Scott though, I knew her from San Fran as that is where she was living.

A friend of mine who passed on from CA was a huge fan, Greg will probably dedicate a song doing the show.

I am so unbelievably jealous!! The Whigs were one of my favorite '90s bands (maybe my favorite other than FNM...hard to say) and I was completely gutted when they originally retired. I was lucky enough to see them tour off the "Black Love" album (my favorite Whigs record, hands down..."Faded" may be the single greatest song EVER!) but I was really hoping that I would get to see at least one show off their reunion tour. I was hoping and praying for a show at F3F this year but that, alas, did not come to pass. I'm definitely holding out hope for a new album or, at the very least, a wider tour.
