SATYRICON

Somewhere around 11:30pm Satyr, Frost, and the touring musicians filling out Satyricon took the stage. I saw the band this past February when they opened for Cradle of Filth [yes, I went to see Satyricon, caught their set, and left once I was able to confim that, yes indeed, CoF sucks as much as I knew they would]. Tonight's set was nearly identical to the set they performed that night. Three or four songs were added to fill out the time alloted their headlining status on their current tour.

The biggest issue with tonight's show was the venue. Prophet Bar was simply too large. The crowd was spread out and the energy level suffered. Satyr was determined to work the crowd into a frenzy even though they didn't seem capable of reaching any sort of frantic state. I think Satyr would have had more success had this show been at Reno's Chop Shop where the crowd would have been packed into tighter quarters.

Hopefully Satyricon won't use tonight's crowd as an excuse to skip Dallas on their next tour of the States. They are a band capable of putting on an amazing live show. They just need some enthusiasm from the crowd to reach that level.
