monday morning, back to work... but first lemme see how much time i can waste. here's a bunch of random shit i'm thinking about today:

dum dums are such great candy

dum dum flavors i love: mango, butterscotch, blueberry, cotton candy, tangerine
flavors i hate: root beer, grape
you're not even allowed to exist in the bowl with the other dum dums: bubblegum

catfish

saw a super creepy movie recently, it was called "catfish". it's a documentary that started out about a photographer's relationship with a talented young artist that begins on the internet, and it unfolds into a giant mess, when the dude goes to meet the young artist (and more importantly, her older sister, who he had began a somewhat romantic relationship with over the phone and internet), and finds out he'd been hardcore deceived. while i was watching it, i kept doubting what i was seeing, like, "really, this is a real doc? this isn't like a mockumentary? omg, this is really happening to this guy. oof." i seriously had to go online and make sure it was not a fictional story. it's not. imdb describes it as, "A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue." this will scare you. there was a quote at the end, from this old dude, which i guess explains the title chosen for the film. it kinda stuck with me:
“They used to tank cod from Alaska all the way to China. They’d keep them in vats in the ship. By the time the codfish reached China the flesh was mush and tasteless. So this guy came up with this idea that if you put these cods in these big vats, put some catfish in with them. And the catfish would keep the cod agile.
And there are those people who are catfish in life. And they keep you on your toes, they keep you guessin’, they keep you thinkin’, they keep you fresh. And I thank god for the catfish, because we would be dull and boring if we didn’t have somebody nipping at our fin.” ... i think i've known a catfish

what's important

forgot my ipod at home one day last week. there was not even a question of whether or not i was going back to get it, traffic and time be damned. i could have done without my id, my phone, money, food or whatever. but there is no fucking way i'm working without my ipod. that's like forgetting pants. i listen to music like 9-10 hours a day at least. i haven't tried to make it through a work day without music in years, and i don't wanna. i eat good tunes like plants eat sunshine, that's just how it is. i'm glad my company understands this :)

seapony / and beachpop goes on...

so, everybody that knows me, knows i love drony, distorted, reverb-heavy garage rock, and i looooooooove beach pop / surfer rock. now that there is more and more of it hitting the scene, i'm starting to get all cautious, like, "ohhhhh, i dunno, is this gonna suck and be all generic sounding? is this gonna be the band that turns me off of this sound i love?" yes, i am one of those ppl that will start hating something just cause everyone loves it. but i'm getting a little better about that lately :p
back at the beginning of the year, someone told me i would love tennis. i knew that she knew what i liked, so i bought it on her recommendation alone. of course, she was right, i loved it. then last month, a friend was hyping seapony, so i gave it a shot. now at this point, just on the surface, i'm worried it's gonna be sucky. no surprise what it's gonna be like. her name is seapony. the cover is her, in a little dress, on the water somewhere. it's sposd to be right up my alley, but for some reason, i have this standoffish feeling, like i'm preparing for it to suck.
well i could relax almost right after pressing play, cause it is a really nice album. it's def not rock like best coast/dum dum girls/vivian girls, but it's not super light like beach house/memoryhouse, either. i'd put it alongside the faster stuff from tennis, like "baltimore" or "seafarer". there are some really good guitar riffs and melodies, and her voice is sweet. if beach pop is ur thing, you're not really asking for more than that. it's not gonna blow you away, but it's a fun summer album, without a doubt, and prolly belongs in your rotation, if you listen to the other bands i mentioned.
beach pop might get played out soon enough, but this isn't the album that marks the "beginning of the end" :) ... speaking of, i'm hearing a lot of shit about that new best coast single sounding just like her old stuff. i would not give one single fuck if her next album sounded like Crazy For You. just so long as it doesn't suck.

a couple good seapony songs

fa-fa-fa-fifty fuh-fuh funfunfunfest fwa-fwa-fwa-fwiends

so yeah, i been trying to reach that goal of having 50 friends on the board. full disclosure, i have no idea who any of you wonderful guys/gals are. okay well i know one of you, and i used to think i knew one of you... but other than that, yeah, we're strangers. but hopefully that changes, and i'll get a chance to meet up with most of you at some point, either at a show, aclfest, or at funfest. i'm a pretty friendly, easy-going dude, so if you see me out, say hi or throw something at me :) and if ur reading this, send me a friend request! i'm getting kinda close to 50 i think.

i guess i should start working now.... ugh.
