Texas State Hipster? ....maybe?
It's been two months since I moved from Austin to San Marcos to go to Texas State University, and I gotta say, I kinda like it here...except for two things: (1) there isn't a big music scene here. At all. I missed Phobia, Saviours, and now Deftones (their new album isn't as emo-ish as the previous two) in Austin while being here. I think the biggest band that San Marcos has had since I was here was Peelander-Z, and I couldn't go due to studying for a test or quiz or something, I forget, and (2) I haven't met anyone who listens to the same stuff that I do. When I tell new friends that I like grindcore and powerviolence, I might as well feel like a hipster saying, " I listen to stuff that you've never heard of" to them! All the friends that I have here are great, but they're more into stuff that I'm not into at all: screamo metal, mainstream bullshit, and your average boring band on the ACL Fest lineup. Hell, 99% of them had a question mark on their head when I mentioned FFF! If anyone is out there and goes to Texas State, I wanna know: am I going to the wrong people here?

i have, actually; some old friends introduced me to dreampop, and believe it or not, it actually helps me study. also, i will admit that a few bands on this year's acl were bands i'd actually see, like deadmau5 and the sword. and now that i've read my blog over, i can see that i sound pretty whiney. the blog was supposed to be a shoutout to see if any FFF goers are from here, but it turned out to sound something a bit different. my bad.

I guess I should say that I don't listen to the radio, but I wouldn't imagine that they would play bear in heaven or portugal the man on the radio, I wouldn't know though.

well while I understand that we all have our particular genres and subgenres of personal choice, maybe you should just be more tolerant of other people's music....you probably haven't heard half the bands I listen to, and you know, some of them were actually at acl and I've never heard them on the radio.
I'm sure you'll understand this more as you get older, but alienating people isn't the best way to make friends.
