Moving back to where I came from for work. Houston has it better than people would like to believe. Just trim the fat and stay away from the eastside, or any rural area outside of central and your more golden than a battered and fried chicken leg.

I think it's just one of those things... personal experiences are what make or break a place for someone. I have had my downs in Houston, and I won't want to stay there the rest of my life, but it gets a thumbs up in my book. Most of my friends are there too :)
