RE: why the odd future hate?
First of all, i didnt see any hate from the FFF fest community but I would like to explain why it appeals to me...an unemployed 29 year old, with a bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering...
Its sort of a weird thing to speak about my affinity towards OF's music because thie music appeals to kids.
BTW, some of their fans are disgusting...i.e. I overheard some punk little kids listening to OF in public and when an old lady asks them to turn it down, they told her to fuck off.
I couldnt believe that shit so I told the kids to watch their fucking mouth and respect peoples personal space. They weren't rude to my face but I could tell they didnt take anything away from it either.
With that said, when I listen to OF, I get angry. My anger is NOT like those punk kids whatsoever. Im not angry about the kids who are making music they like, or kids who act like jerks and are self absorbed like someone mentioned, or because the shock rap shit is played out since NWA and Eminem.
I like them because:
1. I can respect their dont give a fuck style. They say what they want, rap about what they want without any concern about the big wig exec's that've co-signed them.
2. They keep things in-house. Tyler backs his friends endeavors so hard. He wants success for himself, but I bet you anything, he would rather make his freinds just as successful. From photographers, to his skate friends to all the graphic designers, etc, etc.
3. They've worked hard way before all the hype. The posse all togetherr released like 10 albums/mixtapes before seeing any money come in from it. It's a great business model. Work hard doing what you love and wait for someone to recognize it.
4. Lastly, its getting me angry about something again. OF does not make me hate gays, or girls who've broke my heart, or my dad and my mom. We are living in sensitive times. America is jobless. The rich are getting richer. College is getting more expensive making it harder for the poor to attend. Why are we fighting for other peoples freedom when theres problems at home?!? What the fuck is a NASDAQ?
OF reminds me of the same feeling I had in High School when punk got me feeling the same way. I feel passionately mad about whats going on and now more than ever before.
Our generation might go down as the "lost generation." And that will be because we are not doing anything about it. we are too content about whats going on. Our youth seems to get dumber and dumber.
I'm happy for OF because I was tired of listening to Arcade Fire and hearing about how good Bon Iver was (hes good if youre depressed...im not).
Im happy for OF because rap was sort of boring to me for nearly a decade.
The main thing kids should take away from tyler is that dreams can come true. Find that passion and work hard at it. Do what you want to do but make sure you set yourself up for success and also failure.
In this time, nothing is guaranteed. The value of a degree is in question. But that doesn't mean to be a loser as well.

I take OF's lyrics to be sarcastic when they may or may not be. It's just how I like to enjoy it. I agree with everything so said, and it is a shame some kids take things so literal.

I don't think the youth is getting dumber, but I think maybe the times here in America are pretty "scatterbrained". A lot of people want a lot of change, all over the place, and not focusing on anything in particular. If change is gonna be made anywhere, you've gotta "specialize" in a problem you want solved. It seems like with a lot of people I've met, they fall into this kind of thinking, and all of their solutions kind of become an invisible hodgepodge of unrealized possibilities.
Also, with the growth in the nation, government is becoming more detached and all over the place, and I think that kinda gives the youth a sense of "who gives a fuck about the government; it doesn't affect me". Maybe that has to do with some of the seemingly apathetic youth. Even when research into what's going on is done, you kind of find it hard to believe in any story because they're all told so differently. Leads to hopelessness for change, and "fuck it".
Just some general thoughts. But I think saying that the youth is getting dumber is an oversimplification of things.

That was very articulate, and you seem like a cool cat. Tyler just says so much foul hateful shit. I'm down with anti-greed, power to the people stuff, but Tyler's hate doesn't seem to have any focus. Eff everybody. Gratuitous...that said, to each their own and I don't really care.

I agree with every thing you just said. I don't like people that make OF fans look bad as well, I've never experienced anything like that though

i think i love OF for about the same reasons you do and i hate them for the same reasons too. good music just sometimes falls into the ears of those who interpret and handle it very badly. im glad his music wasnt released when i was a teenager because i could've been just as naive as most back then.
