Seeking donations for Sethen Waid
On June 5, 2009, Sethen Waid and two of his friends were spending an evening together and decided to take in a movie. On the way there, they encountered a vehicle driven by Clayton Robert Johnson. Clayton, an 18 year old, was not only drunk, but he was carrying three 16 year old passengers and driving in excess of 100 mph. The collision threw Sethen and the driver, Cristobal Isaac from the vehicle. Another passenger in their car was saved by a secure seatbelt. Seth's seatbelt did not grip upon impact, so Seth slid out of it. Seatbelt marks were visible at the hospital. Cris died from the accident and Seth was left with severe brain damage. When he arrived at Christus Spohn Memorial, they told Seth's mom, Toni that there was no way he would make it. Through fervent prayers of family, friends and the Corpus Christi community, Seth survived, but was placed in a coma to allow his body to heal. Having done what they could for Seth, Christus Spohn transferred him to Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center in Victoria, TX, which was a huge blessing. While there, he recieved daily therapy and had gotten to the point where he recognized the voices around him and he tried to vocalize. While there, his friends were in and out visiting him and rooting him on. The improvement was amazing. With no insurance, Warm Springs was forced to transfer Seth to a nursing home where he was supposed to recieve further rehabilitation. With all of the residents to tend to, Seth got little or no therapy and he regressed. His vocalizations decreased and his arm muscles began to atrophy due to inactivity. Again God listened and Seth was transferred to a rehab center in Austin that specializes in severe brain injuries. During routine testing, they discovered that Seth had fluid on his brain. They also said it could only have been caused by being injured in the nursing home. They moved him to a hospital where surgery drained the fluid. A few days later, the drain in his skull was removed. Unfortunately, Seth got pneumonia due to the stress of the operation. As of today, 10-25-09, he is still battling the pneumonia. With Seth going from one place to the next and not realizing where he was or that he had an operation, Seth would wake up and have panic attacks because he did not know why he was on a breathing tube again. The hospital thought it best to sedate him, so that is the state of his recovery.
As I mentioned, Seth is uninsured and his bill exceed $1million. He has had his mom Toni and/or his girlfriend Audrey at his side every second since his accident. As a result of this, Toni lost her apartment and her job. She also has a baby daughter that she cares for daily as well. Toni has been living month to month struggling not only for a place to live so she can be near her son, but she also has to pay for the needs of her daughter, food, and $4 a day to park at the hospital. Sethen's father does not provide any support. Seth's girlfriend works for Starbucks who have thankfully transferred her to whichever Starbucks is closest to where Seth is staying. Her income is not enough to sustain them all, so we need your help.
IF YOU OR YOU KNOW ANYONE THAT CAN HELP, PLEASE DO SO.
