Thoughts on Hot Snakes?
Drive Like Jehu & Rocket From The Crypt put on some of the most white-hot rawking shows I've seen. And I dug catching John Reis' more rock-rockish The Night Marchers (at FFFF in, uh, 2009), which I understand is/was essentially the Hot Snakes line-up sans Rick Froberg. But somehow, and this is a bit embarrassing, I've managed to not own any Hot Snakes records or catch them live. So, I'm stoked to catch them but just curious about how their sound may differ from Jehu/Night Marchers and if you'd recommend checking out a certain album (or two etc) first. Hip me, please.

Thanks a ton mon freres! I'm so keyed to dig into their discography and to be upfront for their set.

All 3 of their albums are essential (my favorite depends on what day you ask me), and if you get obsessed like me, you'll want the John Peel Sessions, Thunder Down Under live album and a couple other rare tracks. They're my favorite Reis/Froberg band. Hot Snakes is perfection. I didn't get into them until 2006, after they had split up and could not be more excited that they're playing the fest.

Check them all out, it's all wonderful. I am so absolutely STOKED to see these guys!! And yeah, Night Marchers were great! I actually got to hang out with John at red 7 after seeing them that year, and told him WE WANT HOT SNAKES. Dude is wicked cool. Maybe I'll get to catch him for another beer this year.
