If you do get one from walmart, take it to someone who knows about bikes to look at. Those guys don't grease the bearings, tighten bolts, and set brakes properly. Those bikes are not ready to ride.

I personally like hybrids with gears. I recommend going to any local shop and trying out different types of bikes. I like the guys at Clown Dog on san jac. They are honest and nice. The Peddler bike shop is cool too.
