For all those out of towners!
You may be sitting there and saying will shit hole, where does one stay for Fun Fun Fun Fest this November 4th-6th. Well no worries. I have got some info for you.
1. LOCATION: Auditorium Shores is located at 950 W Riverside Dr between S. Lamar and S. 1st.
2. HOTELS: Get on top of this ASAP as hotels near will sell out fast. You are going to have several option for hotels in the downtown area.
Within walking distance:
1. Embassy Suites Town Lake
2. Hotel Saint Cecilla
3. The W Hotel
A bit of a Drive but cheap:
1. Austin Motel
2. La quinta
3. Extended Stay
3. PARKING
Located just across the street from Auditorium Shores is the Palmer Event Center Parking which will be able to provide plenty of garage parking. As for street parking you are going to want to give up much hope on that as it will be hard to locate some and you will have to pay some meters.
4. BUS
With Austins new Metro Rail it can be easy to get from the north to the convention center without having to bring your car. Keep in mind you may have to take some buses but hey they are not that bad. Schedules are here http://www.capmetro.org . You can also look into using one of the Cars2go in Austin. http://www.car2go.com/
5. LOCAL BARS
You will probably want to look for some local bars once you are done with your day at the fest. Here is a break down of the bar areas.
West 6th and 5th
Pricey, more dressy
West 4th
This is the gayborhood. You will have 3 gay bars and several price bars. You will also locate two pubs (The gingerman and Fados)
East 6th aka dirty six
Tons of college students. Cheap drinks but more fights and cops. Easy for bouncing bar to bar.
East 7th, 8th and 9th
Venue town. You will have The Mohawk, Stubbs, Beer Land, Red eye fly and some other venues in this area. You will also locate some indy style dive bars such as Barbarella, Beauty Bar, Creek Side and Alyssum. Drinks will be decent priced ($2 for a bottle or $4 for a strongbow)
East East 6th AKA new East 6th st
Trendy (some hipsters) area with plenty of food trailers, bars, restaurants and Coffe Shops. You will find juke boxes in this area with decent priced beers and shots.
Rainy St. AKA behind IHOP off 35 and 1st
You will find a hand full of bars with kind pricy drinks but a decent mixture of people.
That should answer a lot of your questions. If you have more feel free to post them in the comments and I will answer them for ya!

Careful with the buses, I had a bad moment at ACL where I spent an hour trying to get on one, my friends ended up walking from Zilker Park to 24th street (also known as a long effing walk)

That is good information. I am weighing options if I should stay in Austin or drive back to San Antonio.

You should get bonus points for this post...but I think all the hotels in the "Walking Distance" section have been booked for a while. I NEED A PLACE TO LAY DOWN AND SHOWER (bubble bath) AND BRUSH MY TEETH (and floss!) Might have to step my hobo game up.
