Hi, how are you?

I've always had a love/hate relationship with commercials that use songs that are deeply meaningful to me. For example, I just discovered an Axe commercial that uses Daniel Johnston's "True Love." Nobody does bittersweet heartache quite like Daniel Johnston, so when I see a commercial with "True Love" playing as the soundtrack, I feel it cheapens his song.
After my emotional response dies down, I realize that Daniel Johnston is getting paid and this commercial can turn some people on to his music. Still, I'm not a fan of this particular commercial, but I can still enjoy the music.

True love will find you in the end
You'll find out just who was your friend
Don't be sad, I know you will,
But don't give up until
True love finds you in the end.
This is a promise with a catch
Only if you're looking will it find you
'Cause true love is searching too
But how can it recognize you
Unless you step out into the light?
But don't give up until
True love finds you in the end.

On a completely different note -
According to this commercial, girls notice your hair first, which is supported by the little hairy critter that we see walking around throughout most of the commercial. So, if we follow follow what this commercial shows us, all guys see is a woman's chest walking around our environment. This , in and of itself, is not a big surprise; however, what does this commercial really have to say about how to find true love? Apparently, for girls, you have to wear a low cut shirt in order for love to recognize you. - End of crass commercialism rant -

How bizarre... But y'all make good points about the positive sides of this. And if it makes DJ's life any for the better, I can't be against that. :)

I thought it was exceptionally strange that Axe was using Johnston's music, too. Like you pointed out, though, at least the dude's getting paid and some more exposure. Good for him!
