maybe i could answer art as to what is to be defined as art

here are somethings you should know about art to be a snob and have understanding to why those ugly things are called art and why somethings arent considered art.

there are three things that define art in my book.

product

process

idea

we can see examples of product being art like Sandro Botticelli’s- birth of venus.- Yes it is beautiful or one of my personal favorites milliais’ -ophelia-. beautiful product work,gets to the point of a pre-existing story or just points out the beauty in imagination. yadayadayada.even andy warhol would fall into this being that his product was what sold not entirely his idea. yea mainstreaming pop art is good but the process was common and the ideas were stolen (even the work ((process)) might have not been him)

then we have beauty or art in process. i think pieces that really deal with time go into this. like roni horn’s- this is me this is you -the way she laid everything out (which falls into product) and the four years it took to take the portraits. process. also artists with unique technique like max ernst use of frottage or even man ray’s use of solarization is ways that the process what the art.

idea, now idea is to me most modern art. yes, i think modern art is based on ideas and not really caring on product. idea falls a lot into movement though (which monet also did making it maybe not such a modern thing) im not saying there has never been idea is art before but not like the ideas presented today.- black rectangle, blue triangle by Kazimir Severinovich- is a simple painting, so simple i could describe it to you. its a painting (oil i believe) of a blue triangle (sideways) halfway in a black rectangle on a white surface. the beauty in this is not the painting itself but what it presents in colors (to my belief) if you observe the triangle (part of which is in the black rectangle) the blue seems deep and dark. when you look at the part of the triangle in the white, it’s a cool blue, presenting itself different but guess what ITS THE SAME COLOR.
